Eduardo Paolozzi
Painter, Sculptor & Printmaker: Eduardo Paolozzi, (7th March 1924-22 April 2005)
Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi possessed diverse technical skills. His early collage works during the late 40s, take images from magazines given to him by American ex-servicemen. They were groundbreaking for post-war Britain, showing a fascination with popular culture and technology and have since been described as precursors to the Pop Art movement of the 60's. Paolozzi produced a considerable number of public works many of which are displayed in and around London, possibly the most famous is the mosaic decorations he created for Tottenham Court Road Underground Station in the eighties. Euston Station hosts his portrait of the Expressionist theatre director Erwin Piscator, Newton after William Blake and Head of Invention stand outside the British Library and the Design Museum respectively.
