Artist & Sculptor: Robert Indiana (born September 13, 1928 )
American painter, sculptor and graphic artist, Robert Indiana, is widely recognized as one of the leading exponents of American Pop art. Born, Robert Clark, in New Castle, Indiana, he adopted the name of his home state, as a tribute, early in his career.
He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis in 1942 and had his first one-man show of watercolors which bear the influence of Reginald Marsh, Edward Hopper and Charles Sheeler. He received a degree in 1953 from the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago and won a travelling fellowship to Europe where he completed his BFA requirements at Edinburgh University, Scotland.
